App of the day: Puzzlejuice

puzzlejuiceI came across this app while watching one of my favorite podcasts, The Totally Rad Show. Jeff was showing off a new game he found on iOS called Puzzlejuice. When I listened to Jeff’s description of this game, my mind was immediately blown. Puzzlejuice combines Tetris, Bejeweled, and Scrabble into one game. It was on sale for $0.99 so I had nothing to lose.

After launching the game for the first time, I was welcomed to a short tutorial about the basics of the game. You lay blocks like in Tetris but each block is made up of different colors. After you match up three colors that are immediately adjacent to one another, you can turn those colors into letters. You can only destroy rows and bricks if you find  words made up of three or more letters! This means you have to juggle puzzle pieces, color matching, and finding words all at the same time.

The first game I played, I was addicted but I also got a huge headache from  it. As I played more and more, I got better and better at juggling all three tasks. There are different game modes to keep you interested and coming back for more. The easiest mode is ironically (or aptly) named “Hard.” This is a great game to play with a bunch of friends on Game Center to see if you can top their scores.

Puzzlejuice is definitely worth the money and has kept me entertained for hours. Highly recommended.
