Bioshock

I just finished playing the demo for Bioshock and holy crap. It’s easy to see why this is one of the most anticipated and highest scoring games of the year. If I had to describe it in two words, I would say Bioshock is beautifully horrifying. The setting takes place in an underwater city called Rapture which its creator, Andrew Ryan, made into a sort of utopia for people who felt repressed by the governments under which they lived. All goes wrong when a scientist by the name of Bridgette Tenenbaum discovered a underwater sea slug that could produce stem cells which she used to alter the genetic code of humans by injecting them with a substance called ADAM. She hoped to cure diseases but ADAM proved to do so much more. It allowed humans to develop superhuman powers such as the ability to send 1000 volts of electricity through their hands or to absorb and shoot flames. A war breaks out when ADAM came in short supply and people became dependent on it for survival. ADAM gave humans super powers but it also sucked the humanity out of them, mutating them into vicious and merciless creatures with only one goal: finding more ADAM.

The graphics are amazing (though they look like shit on my low powered computer) and the city is breath taking the first time you see it. The music played in the background while your character is progressing through the game is ironically happy and makes for a fantastic soundtrack. I wish I had a $4,000 gaming PC just to play this game…or maybe I’ll save up and buy a PS3.

P.S. This would make and epic movie.
