After receiving the new Hellogoodbye CD and giving it a once-over, I have to say that I’m a little disappointed. I loved every song on the EP, except perhaps Jesse Buy Nothing… Go to Prom Anyway. The songs on the EP made me want to get up, dress up as a big hot dog, and parade crazily on the beach. There are some good songs on the record, don’t get me wrong, but they are a minority. I think my disappointment has to do with the amount of hype that was generated because of the fact that everyone loved their EP. Expectations were very, very high when the release of Zombies! Aliens! Vampires! Dinosaurs! came around. I will give this record a chance and analyze its melodies and harmonies with hopes of being more impressed.
Update: After listening to the album a little more, I found that Zombies! Aliens! Vampires! Dinosaurs! is a totally different album than their EP. Their EP made me want to get up and dance but the new album is more of a soundtrack for a romantic comedy. There are some really good love songs on the album and did much to chill me out when I was feeling stressed out at the airport yesterday. Though the new album is not a break-through or anything, I think it’s good enough. I give it a 3 out of 5 stars.
