The Fall

Last night Anne and I went to watch The Fall at the local indie theater. From the trailer, I could tell it would be a visual masterpiece and I wasn’t far off. The entire movie was extremely pretty and there was so many little artistic details throughout the movie that made me really appreciate what the director, Tarsem Singh, did with the cinematography and location scouting. The film was shot in 26 different locations in 18 different countries. The locations were immaculate and made the film feel like an epic.

That said, there was something I did not like about the movie. I thought the character development could have been better. It was a little vague and confusing exactly what happened to the main character, Roy but everything resolved itself at the end. Though it was resolved, I found the story line to be a little shallower than I would have liked. That said, the acting was good. Lee Pace did an admirable job but the little girl, Catinca Untaru, was spectacular. Pace mentioned in his interview with IGN that Untaru came straight from Romania and knew no English but managed to learn enough for the film in 10 days. Overall, I’d give this film a 7/10 and would only recommend it to people who enjoy a good fairytale and want to see a visual masterpiece.
